Soil

Like light, loose, well drained, cool soil high in organic matter.

Planting Time

Transplant 4 weeks before last frost until 10 weeks before first frost.

Spacing

Plant about 12 to 15 inches apart.

Problems

Cabbage Worms and Loopers - Can best be controlled with Bacillus thuringiensis. Floating row covers will also work.

Cut Worms - Seedlings can be attacked by cut worms which can be prevent with a cut worm collar.

Flea Beetles - Sometimes a problem with seedlings. Can be prevented with floating row covers or pyrethrin.

Harvest

Anytime before they get too big and split.

Pollination

Not Required.

Watering

Cabbage enjoy moist soil and frequent watering. A good layer of mulch will help maintain evenness in soil moisture.

Fertilizing

Cabbage benefits from some Nitrogen.
