Soil

Like light, loose, well drained, moist soil high in organic matter.

Planting Time

Start seedlings 8 weeks before last frost date and transplant after last frost date until 12 weeks before first frost.

Spacing

Plant about 6 inches apart.

Problems

Black Heart - Can be prevented by ensuring that plants have sufficient Calcium.

Celery Mosaic - Control pests like aphids which spread the disease.

Harvest

I pick a few stalk when ever I need it. This does leave the plant open to diseases.

Pollination

Not Required.

Seed Information

75,000 seeds/ounce.

Watering

Celery enjoys lots of watering. A good layer of mulch will help maintain evenness in soil moisture.

Fertilizing

Celery benefits from Nitrogen and Calcium.
